About the Campaign
Early Christmas morning, like around 2am, little Emmy got into the presents under the tree!
One of the gifts was a collection of candies, and she chewed it open and got into the gum. And the gum was sweetened with Xylitol.
Emmy under the tree, Christmas Eve:
Xylitol is a fairly new artificial sweetener, used in a lot of gum brands, and it is very toxic to dogs. Xylitol causes liver failure, and other issues. You can read about this HERE.
On Christmas day Emmy’s family, the Antons, took her to the only ER vet they could find open, True Care in Studio City. They spent a lot of money there, and were told that Emmy probably would not survive. The next day they took Emmy to their usual vet, Mid Valley Vet Hospital, which is where she is now.
Mackenzie Anton with Emmy at the vet:
Emmy stayed there overnight Monday, and is showing some improvement today. The doctor has here on an IV for fluids, vitamins and some medications. She is getting regular blood tests to monitor how her liver is doing, and the signs are good, but she is still in danger. Xylitol is very dangerous.
The Antons are Sierra Madre residents, and just cannot afford all of the cost here to save Emmy! They have already paid for the ER visit, this fundraiser is for Emmy’s current care at Mid Valley Vet Hospital, so she can stay overnight again and continue getting all the tests she needs.
All donations are held by Free Animal Doctor and only paid to the veterinarian directly! The family receives no money, this is for Emmy. Thank you!
