About the Campaign

Sick kitty needs answers.

Effie is a 10-year-old British Shorthair who is dealing with ongoing illness suspected to be triaditis, which is a complex condition involving inflammation of the liver, pancreas, and intestines. Despite multiple visits, her vets still don’t have clear answers, and she is now with a specialist who recommends updated blood work and an abdominal ultrasound to determine the cause and whether surgery or a new treatment plan is needed.

Effie’s medical concerns began after a routine checkup in January. Blood work and an exam were done, and the next day Renee was told Effie’s liver panel was elevated. An ultrasound was performed to investigate, but the situation remains unclear and Effie hasn’t stabilized the way her family hoped. Now the specialist needs more detailed diagnostics to pinpoint what’s driving her symptoms and what the safest next step is.

Renee adopted Effie in October 2023 from a shelter across the street. Effie is her only cat, and Renee chose her with a full heart—she had just lost Bella, the cat she had for 16.5 years, and wanted to rescue again. Effie reminded her of Bella and was listed as a British Shorthair, the same breed Renee loved before. Effie wasn’t “just another pet.” She was a second chance at love after a long goodbye.

The problem is that Renee has already poured her savings into Effie’s care. Already Effie’s bills have been over $10,000. She pays for everything herself, and it’s just the two of them. Renee works as a dental assistant and doesn’t have anyone else contributing to Effie’s bills. With repeated appointments and testing already behind them, there isn’t enough left to cover another round of specialist-level diagnostics.

Renee also knows what it’s like to fight for your health. She is a cancer survivor—diagnosed young and living for years with a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor before surgery finally happened. She has been through long uncertainty and understands how critical good testing is when the answers aren’t obvious. That’s why she’s pushing to get Effie the diagnostics she needs now.

Donations will help cover Effie’s specialist blood work and abdominal ultrasound so her medical team can identify what’s happening and decide the right next step, including whether surgery is needed. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate is below, click to enlarge:

I’m really sorry to hear your cat isn’t feeling well—that’s so hard, especially when they’re such an important part of your life. I hope it turns out to be something minor and that they start feeling better really soon. I’m thinking of you and sending lots of love to both you and your kitty. If you need anything at all, I’m here for you.
