About the Campaign

Duck is a 1-year-old male cat with a badly broken leg. The injury is severe enough that bone is exposed through the skin, and the specialist will need to determine whether the leg can be saved with surgery or if amputation is the safest option.

Duck showed up at Megan’s apartment patio about two months ago, dirty, crying, and clearly looking for help. She gave him water, then food, and he slowly decided he belonged there. Eventually he even figured out how to open the screen door, and from then on, Duck was home.

Megan does not know what happened to him before he arrived. She thinks he may have been hit by a car, but there is no way to know. He came to her already injured, and at first he was too scared and unsocialized to safely pick up or catch. Once she could get him to the vet, Banfield examined him, gave him gabapentin, and referred him to a specialist.

Duck needs help quickly, but travel is also difficult because he hates being in a carrier and cannot go too far. Megan is trying to get him the care he needs without putting him through more stress than necessary.

The cost is the barrier. Megan works at Disneyland as an assistant stage manager, and her partner, Christina, also works there as a ride operator. They are already stretched by rent, utilities, and debt from a sudden move a couple of years ago. Megan did qualify for CareCredit, but with her current debt, she knows she cannot take on another monthly payment she will not be able to afford.

Megan took Duck in knowing he might need expensive care, because she was afraid he could be euthanized if he ended up at a shelter with an injury this severe. Donations will help cover Duck’s specialist exam, surgery, hospitalization, pain medication, and follow-up care, whether his leg can be repaired or must be amputated. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate below, click to enlarge:
