About the Campaign
Liver Shunt with Complications
Doobie has a life-threatening liver shunt and dangerous blood-clotting problems. He needs a plasma transfusion and a specialized surgery to fix the shunt, but his family is still $5,000 short of what it will cost to save his life.
A 2.5-year-old Dachshund mix rescued from the Austin Humane Society, Doobie came from a neglected hoarding situation and was terrified when Mazzy first met him—tiny, just neutered, and shaking in the meet-and-greet room. Mazzy and her partner, Hunter, had been searching for a small friend for their big pit bull, Luna, and the moment they saw Doobie, they knew he was coming home.
They found out something was terribly wrong after a camping trip. When they got home, Doobie suddenly couldn’t pee. He kept lifting his leg with nothing coming out, then started vomiting—a huge red flag. Mazzy rushed him to the ER in the middle of the night. By early morning he was in emergency surgery to clear a dangerous urinary blockage. The vets found “hundreds” of stones, and his liver values were all wrong.
Further testing, including a CT scan put on CareCredit, finally revealed the real problem: Doobie has a liver shunt. Because of it, his blood doesn’t clot properly. The vets couldn’t safely do a liver biopsy, and now he needs a plasma transfusion and a specialized external shunt surgery with a board-certified surgeon. Without it, his liver will keep failing and his clotting issues put him at constant risk.
Mazzy and Hunter have already spent over $10,000 trying to save Doobie and keep him stable on medication. They have about $2,000 of credit left, but the surgery and plasma transfusion will cost thousands more, and they are still roughly $5,000 short of what’s needed to move forward.
Money is the only thing in the way. Mazzy and Hunter clean Airbnbs and private homes for a living, but things have slowed down. One of the big Airbnb owners they worked for got out of the business, and they lost a lot of steady income. They’ve maxed out their credit cards, emptied their savings, and Doobie’s medications are expensive while they wait and hope they can afford surgery.
Doobie is still young, and with this surgery he has a real chance at a long, normal life. Your donation will go toward his plasma transfusion, liver shunt surgery, and related hospital care so he can finally get the treatment he needs instead of just fighting to hang on. This rescued dog now has a safe home and dedicated owners, let’s get him a healthy liver as well! All donations paid only to the vet, doctor’s letter below (click to enlarge):

Wishing a speedy and healthy recovery once the surgery is complete. Doobie looks like one of the most sweetest little precious pups. He reminds me so much of our dog Dove who will be turning one next month and we got her for a convenient for our Shepherd husky lab mix.
