About the Campaign

Diva’s Story

We helped Diva a few years ago after she had an accident to the mouth. We raised $480 for her to get her mouth corrected.

Diva has broken teeth

After Diva had her mouth surgically repaired a few weeks after Gail started to notice Diva wasn’t acting herself. Soon after Diva was diagnosed with SARDS.  “Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome, or SARDS, is a rare disease in dogs that causes sudden blindness. The current cause of SARDS is still unsure. Medical understanding of the cause of SARDS is poor with only a few theories.  Suggested  causes are elevations in adrenal sex hormones, toxins, autoimmune issues, or Cushing’s Disease. At present, about 4,000 cases are reported annually with female dogs being more numerous than males, & any breed or mixed breed can succumb. Young dogs are less likely to develop SARDS than middle-aged or older dogs. ”  Gail said that the cause isn’t determined but vet says it could have been the anesthesia from the mouth surgery. Diva has been living blind for the last three years.

About two weeks ago Gail noticed bumps/ hives all over Diva’s body. Diva has been extremely irritated by these bumps and has been biting and itching the spots on her belly. Gail was able to get Diva into the vet on a free coupon to get a diagnosis. The vet seems to think the bites are from fleas and Diva has had some sort of reaction. Currently, Gail is unemployed but she did try the holistic approach with Diva with oatmeal bath and other natural herbs. It seemed to help the spots but hasn’t cleared them up.

Treatment Plan:

The vet wants to put Diva on a special flea treatment along with antibiotics and a prescription shampoo. Please click the blue link to see the treatment plan from the vet. Diva treatment

Anything to help stop the itching and chewing is worth it.
