About the Campaign
Her doggie can’t walk
and Cookie is only 1 year old
Cookie was adopted as a puppy. Mom Thia got Cookie in part for her daughter Calli who needed a good friend at home due to some issues she was having. Cookie has been a great friend!
Happy Adoption Day:
During the Summer Cookie had a couple of times where she yelped! real loud when running around and playing, and would act sort of depressed or lethargic for a bit, but went back to normal in a few days. Mom was dealing with a cancer diagnosis, and money was getting tight, so as long as Cookie seemed ok, and Cookie was young, just assume it was fine.
Well, then as Summer was ending Cookie started walking shorter and shorter distances. It was hard to notice at first, but after a while it was clear Cookie was not the same. Thia took Cookie to a vet, and that doctor said it was probably nothing, just growing pains.
Cookie at the rescue (they changed her name):
So, Cookie continued… but she started limping, and somedays didn’t even want to get up. Thia knew it had to be something more, especially one day when Thia yelped a number of times, and would not stand up at all. Going to another vet, and this time getting full x-rays done, a clear diagnosis was made: Cookie had dislocated knees, and would only get better with surgery.
Thia spent nearly $2000 getting Cookie diagnosed, medications and some treatment. Some friends helped out, and she has some Care Credit too… but money is tight. Thia is now disabled due to her cancer treatment, but has not yet qualified for disability. They have some funds available, but Cookie needs surgery on both knees, and that is just not possible at all.
All donations are held by FAD and paid only to the vet. Thia has some Care Credit still available, but most of the surgery cost is needed for Cookie, let’s help Calli’s best friend walk again! She is a young dog, still a puppy, and this surgery will fix her for life!
