About the Campaign

Clementine is a 3-month-old kitten with a mid-diaphyseal femoral fracture, a clean break through the middle of the thigh bone in her back left leg. Surgery to pin or plate the bone is the only fix, and it has to happen within about two weeks. After that, the bone starts healing crooked, and the options become re-breaking it or amputating the leg.

Animal Medical Center in Richmond quoted more than $5,000. Then er owner Aryany found a second clinic that estimates about $3,000… but we recommended she contact Anicira (link(opens in new tab)) which is a non-profit vet with locations in Virginia, and today they got back with a quote of $2000, which is a very good price for this type of orthopedic surgery.

Aryany adopted Clementine from Richmond Animal Care and Control just two weeks ago. Clementine was doing what kittens do while Aryany was at work, and the best guess is that she jumped wrong off the cat tree. She was limping when Aryany got home, and by morning she could barely use the leg. X-rays at Animal Medical Center the next day showed the fracture. That visit was $430, which Aryany had to borrow from her sister.

Clementine was adopted with a purpose. Aryany’s twin sister is moving out and already has cats, and Aryany has a cat of her own, so the sisters went to the shelter together to pick out companions. Her sister took a boy kitten, and Aryany took Clementine. Clementine and her new house-mate:

Aryany is carrying her whole household. Her partner, a Marine reservist, is unemployed right now, so she pays all the bills working three jobs: waitressing at a restaurant, part-time as a CNA at a retirement home, and DoorDash in between. Their current apartment is more than they can afford, and they have signed for a cheaper one but cannot move in yet; with bad credit, the deposit was steep. There is nothing left over for surgery on a kitten she has had for two weeks, and the clock is running.

Kittens heal fast and well from fracture repair, and Clementine is otherwise healthy. Donations will cover her surgical consultation, x-rays, anesthesia, the surgery to fix the bone, pain medication, and follow-up x-rays to confirm it is healing. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.

If the kitten was that tiny, why was she given free range of a new home, unsupervised? There should have been no access to cat trees, or other tall objects that could have caused a dangerous fall; assuming that is what really caused her injuries.

Kittens usually don't break a leg so easily. Are you sure you dont have a predator in your house? ...

$30.00 donated. Cmon people. We can’t let this sweet little thing end up with an amputation. I have a cat that had to have an amputation because she was found with a broken hip as a kitten. She does okay, but boy how I wish we could have saved her leg. Her hip was growing into her colon so we didn’t have a choice. We can help this little kitty if we all chip in.

Maybe try to find a more rural vet. They charge about a third of what other vets charge for example I had a dog that was hit by a car and broke her upper front leg. They wanted about $3,000 to fix it. A vet about 30 miles from my house did it for under $900. Just an option maybe use Facebook to help find a reputable vet a little bit out of your way and save a lot of money

This is so tragic. Why can't these vets help a small kitten save her leg without all the money being donated. Stop, folks, with the pet insurance, already. That doesn't help this kitten at the moment, and there's only one more day to raise $1000! UGHHHHH...A kitten shouldn't have it's leg amputated!

Sometimes young dogs or cats grow out of the break. just a thought. I have seen it heal as they got older without surgery. a thought.

Best to keep cat trees under a certain height; put carpeting, softer mats in areas around cat furniture, other furniture that could cushion a jump or fall. Also, find a Vet who will do the surgery right away before the muscles contract, often having donations sent directly to the animal hospital is helpful in encouraging people to give. Also, many municipal shelters have volunteer groups who raise money for animals associated with that shelter; call local rescue groups, ask one to email their list of other pet rescues- for help.

Cats have a remarkable ability to heal. Amputation seems extreme to me. Why are they pushing surgery or amputation?

She’s so cute!!! I hope she is feeling better soon!
I was a CNA when I was younger, before I got my RN. It’s the hardest work I’ve ever done. Go to nursing school, you’ll never look back.

The person who posted 10 hours ago that they wanted the brother and sister but I think you’re kinda missing the whole point of this post. It’s not for adoption of any kittens or cats but is asking for donations for surgery for the little girl kitten, Clementine.

Paying it forward, for my Biscuit, blind girl rescue kitty. Found with a ruptured eye. A vet removed it and treated the infection. Vet was being paid for a day working at a spay/neuter clinic, so she did the eye for free.
Clementine looks very much like Biscuit.
I pray you have a happy long life together.
