About the Campaign
Chucky is a senior male English Bulldog with an eye problem that has not cleared up in a year of vet visits and medication. Both eyes produce thick green discharge, the right one much worse. He also has a growth on his belly that his vet was not concerned about but that has recently started getting bigger, now about the size of a pinky fingernail, and his owner Marilyn suspects an ear infection.
He needs a thorough exam to figure out what is going on with his eyes, a look at the ear, and a needle sample of the growth to find out what it is. Some of the care has been delayed because Marilyn cannot afford it, but we also feel that she and Chucky have gotten the runaround from the vets she has been to. She has spent a lot of money, but got no real answers and nothing is better. Fortunately we know a vet who is great with senior dogs we want to send Chucky to visit!
Marilyn has tried. A month ago she spent more than $500 at the vet and came home with Optimmune, a medication for dry eye, and other prescriptions. Nothing has worked, and other medications over the past year have not helped either. Then this week, as Chucky tried to step up onto a curb, his front leg gave out. He just collapsed, banging his face on the curb painfully! This has started to happen more often recently, and needs to be part of the vet’s consideration as well. She wants a fresh set of eyes on him and cannot pay for another round of visits that go nowhere.
Chucky was a gift from Marilyn’s boyfriend when the puppy was about two months old. They both loved Bulldogs. Her boyfriend has since passed away, and Chucky is her only dog.
His ear currently:
Marilyn works as a caregiver, and two of her patients recently died, which cut her hours and her income. She lives alone and receives food stamps. After the $500 she already spent, there is nothing left for the exams and tests Chucky needs.
Bulldogs are prone to eye and skin problems, but a year of discharge that resists treatment needs a proper diagnosis, not another bottle of drops. Donations will cover Chucky’s exam, eye testing, ear cytology and treatment, a needle sample of the belly growth, x-rays of his front leg if needed, and the medications his vet prescribes once they know what they are treating. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.
