About the Campaign
Help Chico Overcome Heartworm Disease
Chico, a super cutie of a dog who has already faced a series of challenges, is now confronting a severe medical condition that requires immediate attention: heartworm disease. Chico came into Gretchen’s life under unique circumstances. As a dog rescuer, Gretchen received Chico from a local pound at the end of February to be a playmate for her other dog. However, it was discovered that Chico was heartworm positive.
Chico’s Heartworm Condition:
• Heartworm positive, as diagnosed by a local rescue
• Currently on preventive medication
• Initial treatment by the rescue was incomplete
• Requires comprehensive heartworm treatment
The local rescue initially promised to treat Chico’s heartworm condition, and provided two out of the required three shots. However, they refused to give the third shot, leaving Chico’s treatment incomplete. Now, the responsibility to treat Chico’s heartworms has fallen on Gretchen, who was considering surrendering him due to the high costs of treatment.
She was referred to us for assistance. While she has managed to keep Chico on preventive medication and has bought dewormers to help, the VCA has been unresponsive, leaving Gretchen in a difficult position. The full treatment for heartworms is estimated to be around $1,500, which Gretchen currently cannot afford.
