About the Campaign

Broken Arm!

Chase is a 5-month-old female Pitbull puppy who was hit by a car and suffered fractures to both the radius and ulna—the two main bones in the front leg. Because both bones are broken, the leg has little stability, and her veterinarian has recommended orthopedic surgery (placing rods/pins/repair hardware) so the bones can heal properly and Chase can use her leg again.

The accident happened when Chase bolted out near the driveway as Ivonne was heading out. She was hit immediately. Ivonne picked her up and could tell something was terribly wrong—Chase couldn’t move the leg, and it hung limply. Ivonne rushed her to the vet right away, where Chase was hospitalized for two days. At first, the hope was that she might heal with a splint because she’s so young, but once the swelling and fractures were fully assessed, the message changed: Chase will need orthopedic repair, and the splint is only a temporary measure while surgery is arranged.

Ivonne has already paid about $2,042 for the emergency care and splinting to keep Chase protected. Now she’s facing the bigger cost of surgery—and she simply doesn’t have the money.

Ivonne is currently unemployed and caring for two small children—Julian (4) and Sophia (1). She lives with her father, Hugo, who is helping as much as he can, but he is also dealing with serious medical issues. Hugo is a high-risk diabetic who has had vascular surgery and toe amputations, and he is currently on workers’ comp income after an injury and amputation. Ivonne has had to step up as a caregiver for him, and she shared that she stopped working after his last major medical crisis.

The family is already stretched thin. Ivonne relies on SNAP to help feed her kids, and there is no cushion for a sudden orthopedic surgery—especially after the $2,042 already spent just to stabilize Chase.

Donations will help cover Chase’s orthopedic surgery and follow-up care so her broken radius and ulna can heal correctly and she can grow up with a strong, functional leg. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate is below, click to enlarge:
