After eight healthy years together, Charlie’s mysterious breathing difficulties have led Anabelle to exhaust her resources in search of a diagnosis and treatment.

Eight months ago, Charlie began making unusual breathing noises, initially thought to be simple congestion. Since the issue only arose when he licked himself, Anabelle, like many cat owners, was not initially alarmed.

Later Charlie was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection and prescribed medication, but his condition remained unchanged and even worsened over time. Anabelle returned to the vet, only to receive the same diagnosis and recommendation for further studies.

Determined to find answers, Anabelle saved up for the recommended tests, all of which came back clean. Further investigation revealed no issues in Charlie’s throat, leading the vet to suspect a nasal problem. Referred to a specialist, Anabelle was advised to consider a rhinoscopy—a type of CAT scan followed by the insertion of a scope into Charlie’s nose.

With Charlie’s breathing growing more labored and his condition affecting his eye, Anabelle is increasingly worried about her beloved pet. The VCA specialist estimates that there is likely a serious issue in Charlie’s nose, possibly a polyp, cancer, or obstructive tissue. However, a concrete diagnosis can only be confirmed through the rhinoscopy, which is estimated to cost $4,000 to $5,000.

As the sole income in her household, Anabelle supports not only herself but also her mother and sister. Working 40 hours a week and taking night classes, she is stretched thin financially. A recent increase in her rent has only added to her financial burden, making it even more difficult to afford the costly veterinary treatment Charlie desperately needs.

A fundraiser has been organized to help Anabelle cover the costs of Charlie’s rhinoscopy and any subsequent treatment. All donations are paid to the vet only, not to Anabelle.
