Surgery to Beat Cancer
Charley Brown, an affectionate 8-year-old coonhound mix, has been diagnosed with anal gland carcinoma. Her doctors say the best chance for her is urgent surgery to remove the tumor and a nearby lymph node before the cancer can spread further.
Amanda, her owner, has already done everything possible. She was approved for some Care Credit and has saved $3,000 to put toward the procedure, but the total cost is much higher than she can manage on her own.
Charley has been part of Amanda’s family since her son Brylar, then only four years old, named her after the nickname his grandmother used to call him—Charley Brown. Amanda rescued her from an abusive home where she was neglected and trying to run away. Since then, Charley has been Brylar’s best friend and Amanda’s emotional support, always steady through life’s challenges.
Brylar and Charley
The cancer appeared suddenly. At a July wellness visit, the vet noted only a small cyst, but within two weeks a hard lump grew larger than a golf ball. Tests confirmed cancer, and the oncologist quickly recommended surgery.
Amanda’s story shows just how much she’s juggling. A single mother, she recently graduated with a BS in psychology and is trying to restart her career while raising Brylar, who is now 13, and supporting her elderly grandfather after losing her grandmother in 2022. She’s also eight months pregnant as a surrogate, all while working part-time data entry jobs to keep her family afloat. Despite everything, her first thought is for Charley Brown—her loyal ESA with a psychiatrist’s letter—who has been by her side through every trial.
Charley’s prognosis is hopeful with surgery. She deserves the chance to live comfortably and keep being the gentle, grounding presence Amanda and Brylar rely on. Please consider donating to help cover Charley Brown’s surgery costs. Every contribution goes directly to her veterinary care and makes a difference for this beloved hound and her family.
