Chanel

About the Campaign

Chanel is a 9-year-old female Persian with a painful eye ulcer and corneal sequestrum. Her eye problems started about a year ago, first with a dark spot on her right eye. That improved but left a small scar, and then the problem began again on her left eye.

Kaylee has been treating Chanel over and over, but the ulcer keeps coming back. She has spent more than $2,000 so far, takes Chanel to the vet about every two months, and pays for eye drops that cost around $100 a month. The treatment helps for a while, but then the problem returns.

Chanel recently went back to Animal Eye Associates because her eye looked bad again. The recommendation is medial canthoplasty surgery, which will help correct the eyelid issue that is allowing this cycle of irritation, ulceration, and pain to keep happening.

Chanel came into Kaylee’s life when she was about 3 years old. A friend was moving into a small apartment with a large dog and felt Chanel needed a safer home, so Kaylee took her in. Chanel was already known and loved by the family, and she has been with them ever since.

Chanel is also a surprisingly adventurous cat. Kaylee takes her to the Ozarks, and Chanel travels well, enjoys people, and is friendly even with strangers. She is a sweet, social cat who just needs her eye problem finally fixed.

The cost is the barrier. Kaylee is 26 and works as a public school teacher for 4th grade. Her boyfriend works at a car wash. They have kept up with repeated visits and medications for a year, but surgery is more than they can manage alone. Donations will help cover Chanel’s medial canthoplasty surgery, eye care, medications, follow-up visits, and treatment for the ulcer and sequestrum so she can finally be comfortable.
