About the Campaign
Jafo Barely Survived, but He Did Survive!
A fast RV fire, with an explosion killed of his three friends.
Jafo has bad and painful, but recoverable, burns on all his paws, his ears, and some of his face and back. He may have to have his ear flaps removed, or partially removed, but should be able to make a full recovery with time and treatment.
Mary lived in her large RV, parked in the back of her daughter’s house. Mary has a number of serious health problems, and cannot work. She helps care for her daughter’s children, and is also a big animal lover who had four rescue dogs living with her in the RV.
On Sunday evening her daughter Leigha was sitting on the back porch when she saw what she thought was a mini-dust storm. Suddenly she realized it was smoke coming out of her mother’s RV. The RV is long and has a back and front door, she ran up to the front door and yelled at her mother, and suddenly flames started leaping out. Mary was taking a nap, and for a moment didn’t understand what was happening, jumping up out of the RV, running toward her daughter.
As soon as she realized what was happening she rushed to open the back door, there was a loud BANG! and flames started roaring out of the rear! Jafo was yelping inside and Mary managed to reach in and grab him out, just as the flames pushed her back. Meanwhile Leigha had gotten the hose and was desperately trying to put down the flames… but they grew up almost instantly pushing her back from the severe heat. Later the firemen estimated it was an electrical fire to start, and probably by the time the hose was on the fire, it wasn’t effective.
Though they tried to get back in the RV, at one point before the firemen arrived the heat was so strong they couldn’t get within even 20 feet of the RV. Sadly, the other three dogs, Oscar, Snafu and Pewpew perished in the fire. Video of Pewpew and photo of Oscar and Snafu below:
Mary has no real source of income or savings, her daughter Leigha supports her. Leigha isn’t exactly rolling in money either, and recently spent $2500 on her injured dog (in January) and treated her other dog for cancer (February) for $2100, and just has no available money now either.
The GREAT news is that the vet is treating Jafo without upfront payment! They are also only charging for medications and treatment, not office visits and other fees. What we need to do URGENTLY is raise money so we can start paying the vet SOMETHING! Even with discounts, at the low end Jafo will need $1500.00, and we honestly expect it to be more.
As always, all donations will ONLY BE PAID TO THE VET, not the owner. Thank you!
