About the Campaign
Budweiser is a 7-year-old male Lab who has a torn ligament in his back knee and needs TPLO surgery to regain stability and live without constant pain. He’s the kind of dog who lives for long walks and adventures, but right now he’s struggling to walk normally, can’t run, and has had his active life put on pause.
Salma first noticed something was wrong after a long hike. Budweiser was begging to go, and he ran joyfully for the entire seven miles. But when they got back to the car, he was limping. At first he seemed extremely tired and slowed down, and then over time the limp returned and worsened. By March and April, even after a brief period of improvement, Budweiser was limping again. After vet visits, diagnosis, and medication, the conclusion was that surgery is needed to fix the problem.
Budweiser has been part of their family since 2018, when he was adopted from a shelter as a puppy. He became a source of joy and stability during a hard time: Salma’s brother was struggling after a move, and their dad took him to the shelter hoping he could find something to bond with. Budweiser was the puppy who jumped all over him, playful and full of life, and that instant connection brought him home. Budweiser has been their family dog ever since.
Financially, this family is stretched thin. Multiple generations live together and are caring for their grandfather, Junio, who has dementia and now requires paid care. Salma works as a manager at a startup website development company and is applying to law school. Her brother Maher is in college studying engineering, and her younger sister is in her first year of college. Her dad works construction, and her mom runs a small candle business. Between caregiving costs, household expenses, and school savings, there isn’t room for a sudden $6,000 surgery bill. Salma and her family have already spent over $600 on diagnostics and medication. The surgery cost is about $6,000, and they can cover roughly half, but not the full amount.
Salma is still pushing forward, but life keeps piling on. She was in a car crash two months ago and can’t even find the part she needs to fix it right now. She also has a cat with a birth defect that requires ongoing checkups and periodic X-rays—another responsibility she’s been managing.
This fundraiser is to help bridge the gap so Budweiser can get TPLO surgery soon and return to the life he loves. Donations will help cover Budweiser’s TPLO surgery and related veterinary care. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate below, click to enlarge:
