Buddah is a 7-year-old male cat who needs dental work for a painful tooth problem. About six months ago, Louetta found one of his teeth hanging loose and took him to the vet. The estimate was over $1,800, which she could not afford, so the vet prescribed antibiotics to help temporarily.

But antibiotics cannot fix a bad tooth or dental disease. Buddah still needs the dental procedure to remove diseased teeth, clean the infection, and stop the pain. With help from the rescue group PAWS/LA, Louetta found Laurel Pet Hospital, where the estimate is now discounted to under $1,300.

Buddah came into Louetta’s life as a tiny stray kitten in 2015. A young student found him crying near an apartment trash bin, but the student was allergic and could not keep him. Louetta said that if they could rescue the kitten and bring him to her, she would take him in. Buddah has been with her ever since.

He is not just a cat in the house. Louetta was a music teacher, and Buddah loves music too. He stays by her side and “sings” along when she plays. He has been her companion through years of hardship and major changes in her life.

Louetta is 62 and disabled. Before COVID, she taught music and also worked part-time teaching very young children. After getting COVID during the pandemic, her health did not fully recover, and she was on oxygen for more than six months. She could not work for a long time and struggled to find stable, affordable housing. She has only recently found a place to settle and is slowly getting back to work, earning about $1,100 a month.

Louetta is trying to rebuild her life, but Buddah’s dental care is more than she can cover alone. Donations will help pay for Buddah’s dental procedure, extractions if needed, medications, and follow-up care so he can stop hurting and get back to being Louetta’s sweet, musical companion.
