About the Campaign
Painful knee requires surgery
Bruno is an 11-year-old male Bichon/Shih Tzu mix who has now torn the CCL in his other knee and needs surgery to regain stability and comfort. He already went through a CCL surgery once, and now the second leg has failed—leaving him limping and painful again.
Bruno’s family first went through this with his initial tear: they noticed a limp, tried anti-inflammatories, then X-rays led to an orthopedic confirmation that surgery was needed. Bruno recovered, but the financial impact lasted much longer. Brianne has been making monthly payments ever since.
Now it’s happened again. About a year after the first injury, Brianne came home from work and immediately recognized the limp—Bruno had torn the other CCL. Bruno loves to run in the yard and race along the fence with a neighbor’s Lab, and while no one can pinpoint the exact moment it happened, the result is clear: Bruno needs a second surgery, and his family is right back in the hardest place—knowing what he needs but not having the resources to do it twice.
Bruno has been part of their family since he was a puppy. Brianne’s husband, Salvador, originally got Bruno and his sister, Daisy, in December 2014 for their stepdaughter, Gianna. They only intended to take one puppy home, but Bruno and Daisy were the last two left in the litter, and they couldn’t bear separating them—so both came home and became family.
Brianne and Salvador are working parents with significant responsibilities and no room for another large monthly payment. Brianne is a middle school math teacher, Salvador works as an operator at Unilever, and they are raising two younger children—Adalina (7) and Lorenzo (4). They also contribute toward Gianna’s college tuition (in part required through a divorce agreement, and in part because they want to support her). Between household bills, kids, and still paying off the first surgery, they can’t take on another major procedure without help.
Donations will help cover Bruno’s second CCL surgery and related veterinary care so he can walk comfortably again and avoid worsening arthritis from an unstable knee. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Estimate below, click to enlarge:
