About the Campaign

A few months ago Bibi went to the dog park for the first time! Yes, she is 9 years-old, but she and her owner Mireya had never been. Bibi was running around and playing, and when they went to leave Mireya noticed she was limping on her back leg.ย

What happened

The first vet they went to did not think anything was wrong, but the problem persisted, and they decided to go to another vet. He diagnosed Bibi with a torn ACL, the ligament in the knee. In dogs this injury cannot heal on its own, and the only option in surgery. Perhaps Bibi injured her knee at the park, perhaps it was already in bad shape, and the running just brought it out…. who knows? But once the ACL is in this condition, it will not get better on its own. The condition is painful, and sometimes Bibi requires a cold compress along with medications to relieve the chronic pain:

Bibi is a rescue puppy

Nine years ago, Mireya’s neighbor who feeds and rescues neighborhood stray cats found a stray pregnant dog. She got that dog and her puppies adopted, and one went to Mireya, who even had to get special permission from her landlord to have one dog (dogs were not allowed in the lease).

Since then Bibi and Mireya have been best friends as you can see in this photo!

Financial situation

ACL surgery is expensive, usually around $3000. But to make matters worse, back in April of this year Bibi got really sick with bloody diarrhea, and was not eating. She is better now, but that treatment cost about $2000. In addition, Mireya’s main job is doing after school care for the Los Angeles Unified School District. With schools closed due to COVID, her job has been canceled and she is now laid-off from work, for many months.

Free Animal Doctor collects the donations, specifically for Bibi, and we only pay the donations directly to the vet when surgery is done! Please, donate in confidence today. You donation now will help Bibi get the surgery she needs so she can be out of pain and walking again!
