Now she can barely walk!

Beya is a 2-year-old pittbull mix with torn CCL ligaments in both knees. One knee is much worse than the other, and she needs orthopedic surgery so she can walk comfortably again.

For about a year, Cheri noticed Beya would limp on and off. It was easy to blame rough play. But in the last few months, Beya stopped putting her leg down at all. Pain meds helped her get through the day, but the X-rays brought the real answer: both knees are injured, and one is now severe enough that surgery can’t wait.

Beya came into Cheri and Holly’s life when they were looking for a best friend for their other dog, Zoa. They saw Beya on Petfinder through Hopalong in Oakland, and she looked so much like Zoa that they couldn’t believe it. Her description said she was vocal and loved “shopping,” which instantly won Holly over. They adopted Beya when she was about 4–5 months old, and now she’s grown into a sweet, loving shadow who wants to be part of everything.

This is hitting their family at the hardest possible time. Holly is self-employed as a hairstylist, but she can’t work right now while recovering from childbirth and caring for their newborn, Romeo (7 weeks), and their toddler, Valentino (21 months). They don’t have extended family nearby to lean on, so every bit of support is on their shoulders.

They’ve already spent a significant amount on diagnostics and medications, and the total needed for surgery and recovery care is expected to be around $6,500. They do have a GoFundMe as well,. All donations here are paid only to the veterinarian.

Beya is young, loving, and still has so much life to live. With surgery and proper recovery, she can get back to walking, playing, and being the happy, “let’s go everywhere together” girl her family knows! Estimate is below, click to enlarge:
