About the Campaign

Ben has trouble breathing!

Ben was an outdoor cat that was taken in by Gracie. Gracie is known in her neighborhood as the lady who takes care of stray cats, and she feeds stray colonies, and people bring her cats as well.

About two years ago she saw Ben among a group of strays, and he looked like he had something wrong, and she managed to get him and took him to the vet. Ben has cryptococcosis, a chronic disease that Gracie treats with medications. You can read more about cryptococcosis here.

The problem is that this condition damaged Ben’s nose in the time he had it, before he was adopted by Gracie. So he only has one working nostril, not two as normal. NOW Ben has a new problem, he has a gum infection, brought on by a few bad teeth.

The issue is that the swollen gum is pushing upward on the nostril and blocking it. Since this is the only nostril Ben has that he can breathe through, he is having trouble breathing. So now, a dental issue is not just painful, but potentially deadly and making poor Ben miserable!

The good news is that the treatment is simple: Dental surgery. Cryptococcosis is chronic, and Ben has to live with it, but dental surgery will remove the pressure from the infected gum, and allow him to breathe well again. And of course, he needs these bad teeth removed anyway, before the infection gets worse and causes him to lose more teeth.

All donations are for Ben to get his dental surgery. They are specifically for Ben, for this procedure. And all donations are only paid directly to his vet, not the owner! Please, donate in confidence to help Ben! It won’t take a lot, so every donation counts!!!
