About the Campaign

Bella is an 8-year-old female American Bully recovering from surgery to remove two hemangiosarcoma tumors, a cancer of the blood vessel lining. While she was under, her vet decided to check a lump below her knee that had been assumed to be a cyst, and it turned out to be a sarcoma too.

That tumor still needs to be removed, and after that she needs four rounds of chemotherapy to keep the cancer from coming back. Her chest x-rays are clean, which means no sign of spread, and her prognosis is good. Recovering from the first surgery:

Diane has already put more than $4,000 into Bella’s diagnosis and first surgery, using her credit cards and Cherry financing to do it. That credit is gone. The remaining surgery and four chemo sessions are the difference between a good prognosis on paper and a dog who actually gets there.

Diane adopted Bella from the El Cajon Humane Society in 2020. Diana has another dog Steve, who is also a rescue. Steve was abandoned at doggy day care, and Diane took him in. She is a self-employed hairdresser, and her husband works at Costco doing repairs and painting. Two working incomes cover a household full of animals, but not a cancer bill on top of the $4,000 already spent, and there is no credit left to borrow against.

Hemangiosarcoma on the skin, caught and removed early with clean chest x-rays, is one of the better cancer scenarios a dog can be in, and chemotherapy is what locks in that outcome. The doctor gives Bella an excellent prognosis with chemo! Donations will cover Bella’s surgery to remove the third tumor, biopsy, anesthesia, four rounds of chemotherapy, bloodwork before each session, and anti-nausea and pain medication. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.
