About the Campaign

Bear is a 10-year-old male Lab mix who needs TPLO surgery for a torn knee ligament. He has been limping off and on for a long time, but this time the limp did not go away. X-rays finally showed the tear, and now Bear needs surgery so he can walk comfortably again.

Bear also has two lumps that need to be removed. Christina has already spent about $550 getting him examined and diagnosed, and she is trying to move quickly because the lower-cost TPLO specialist she found requires surgery within 30 days of the consultation.

Bear came into Christina’s life when she was working as a server in Orlando. One of her regular customers told her they had found a dog abandoned in a box on the side of the road and were on their way to take him to the pound. Christina had already been thinking about getting a companion for her dog Kimmie, so she took Bear home. He was about a year old then, and he has been with her ever since.

The cost is the barrier. Christina now lives in Palmdale and works as a server, but summer is the slow season and she is only making about $400 to $500 a week right now. She have also been hit with one expense after another. In May, both Bear and Kimmie needed surgery within a week of each other. Kimmie had a tooth abscess that cost thousands to treat, and Bear had an injury to his foot and nail.

Donations will help cover Bear’s TPLO surgery, tumor removals, anesthesia, medications, recovery care, and follow-up visits so this rescued old boy can heal and walk without pain. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. The estimates for both procedures are below, click to enlarge:
