About the Campaign

There is a fabulous update on Bayley, scroll down to see it!

He broke his leg so they dumped him!

Poor Bayley, he can’t even stand,

but he CAN be fixed!

Bayley is just a bit over a year-old. He came in to Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles (GRC-GLA) Rescue unable to stand, with a compound fracture in his right leg. He was found stray on the street in the San Diego area. The people who found him and turned him over to GRC-GLA Rescue report that they were able to contact his owners, and the owners stated Bayley was hit by a car, and since they did not have the means to pay for his care, they abandoned him to the streets.

The video above was taken when Bayley was first found, before he was transferred to GRC=GLA.

Vet assistant carrying Bayley into the hospital

GRC-GLA immediately had x-rays and a full work up done, which then led to an MRI. The results are that Bayley has a spinal fracture that (hopefully) will heal without surgery. He will need 6-8 weeks of very limited movement and rest (try telling that to a young Golden!) and of course he still needs repair of his fractured leg.

Bayley is exhibiting some feeling in his left leg and paw, and he is able to use the bathroom on his own–all good signs. He is at one of the best neurologists and orthopedic vets in the country, and they are positive on prognosis for recovery. The total cost for the rescue, including things already completed such as the MRI, is looking to be about $9700.00, so GRC-GLA Rescue really needs donations on this one! All donations are for GRC-GLA Rescue, and no fees are deducted. Can you help GRC-GLA with their mission and to help Bayley today? WOOOOOF!!

UPDATE June 29th, 2021. From Bayley’s rescue:

Bayley had a re-check with the orthopedic specialist. The specialist was very pleased and pleasantly surprised by Bayley’s progress. In fact, he stated that this is a miracle!

Leg surgery went very well for Bayley. He spent 1 week at a hospital for follow-up care before he could go to a foster home. Bayley is now in a foster home completing his recovery.

He can now stand for short periods of time and walk for short distances. He needs to limit his movement, however, in order to allow his spinal cord to continue healing.

This is a boy with a great spirit for life. He seems to be unaware that he has any physical limitations. And because he wants to do all the activities that are typical for a young dog, he had to be put on a sedative to keep him calm until his healing is complete.

This dog has touched the hearts of everyone he’s met. He’s a sweet guy with a promising future.

Upcoming for Bayley: He’ll be meeting with his neurologist next week for a follow up evaluation of his spinal cord. It will be at least another month before he’s ready for adoption.

I’m sorry sweet Bailey, that your humans left you in the streets. I wish I could donate more but I’m on disability & very limited income. Get well soon boy. Thank you to the GRC-GLA for stepping up and stepping in. God bless you all

This sweet pup Bailey went through so much already and he is still so young. I wish him the very best and that he recovers and heals to be as good as new. The signs are good.
So happy he is in such good hands. Will his leg be fixed now or does he have to wait until the $9500 has been raised for his surgery? I hope he gets the help he needs ASAP.
Bailey, you deserve an awesome future, I hope and pray all will be well with you.❤️❤️❤️

Our dog also had spinal surgery and we understand the costs and how long the recovery process is. But with resources and medical attention dogs are resilient and can bounce back! We hope Bayley can too!

Bayley is a beautiful boy with such a gentle heart and a passion for life! We have had Goldies from the first year of our marriage 38 years ago and lost our last beauty 2 years ago. All our fur babies were rescues. We have been so blessed and been with them through thick and thin. This darling boy deserves the best! We will keep him in our prayers for a complete recovery and the absolute best forever home! Thank you for loving him so much!
