About the Campaign

Suddenly Paralyzed!

Little Basqui was sitting next to his owner early this April, and suddenly let out a YELP! His owner petted, him, he looked ok. And then when the owner got up, Basqui didn’t move. He picked Basqui up, put him on the floor. Nothing. Basqui just sat there!

Basqui went to the emergency vet right away, and they suspected IVDD (Invertebrate Disc Disease, read HERE). To do surgery would require over $7000.00 which the owner didn’t have, and they didn’t think there would be a good chance of success anyway.

From here the owner tried to find a rescue to take Basqui, as he was not equipped and able to deal with the care required for a paralyzed dog. But he could find no one. Visiting the SoCal Bulldog Rescue page, he saw take owner surrenders, but not of Basqui’s breed type. He filled out the paperwork anyway, and the rescue got it to Debra. Debra took Basqui in!

Debra says: “Basqui is totally paralyzed from his mid-back down with no ability to use or feel his back legs. Totally incontinent. He’ll wear diapers and drag his back legs for the remainder of his life.

“Rescues understand the difficulty and cost in caring for dogs with IVDD and this rescue welcomes Basqui into the warm and caring arms of an educated foster. And in doing so, we desperately ask for your help.

“The intake veterinary bill for Basqui was $299.52. To neuter Basqui, bring him up-to-date on his immunizations, heart worm testing, flea/tick control, heart test, and any additional neurological concerns we see with IVDD, we expect a total of $750. Further, we want to get him fully evaluated by a neurologist for a variety of reasons, and though we get a significant discount, that will still be about $1200.

“It’s important you know how valuable you are to rescues who step forward and care for these dogs with special needs. It’s because of your donations we can keep dogs like Basqui in good health while we look for their forever homes.”

All donations are for SoCal Bulldog Rescue, for them to help Basqui. If he can get the care he needs, and be fully healthy, though paralyzed, Debra is sure she can find a loving, permanent home for him! Let’s help this special needs boy, who is only 4 years-old, get a home!

Thank you so much for caring and loving these dogs in need of help. There are so many French Bulldogs needing veterinary assistance and then a good home. Thank you for your help!
