About the Campaign
Surrendered by her owner
“Baby Girl” was reported as suffering from multiple seizures.
On January 19th Baby Girl aka Gracie Lou or Lucy Lou was rescued by the Miracle Foundation. Her owner was going to euthanize her for having seizures but had never even taken her to the vet. When she got to us she was so matted with dried feces in her hair that we had to have her completely shaved.
Taken to the vet
We took her that same day to the vet and did blood work and a urinalysis. Her blood looked great but there were crystals in her urine. We suspected this may have been a result of her love to play in her water bowl and may have not been offered it freely in her previous home. We went ahead and did an ultrasound to make sure no stone’s were present and everything looked good.
She started doing well
She came on several of the Free Animal Doctor hikes where we discovered she loved playing in the ocean and ate up the attention she got from everyone and was so gentle and sweet with every dog she met. We did notice almost immediately that she had extreme separation anxiety and found her an amazing foster home with someone that worked at Petco and could take her to work every day. With her fosters she learned to play and slowly began to no longer feel anxious as she knew she was safe and loved. She had the most loving, gentle temperament of any dog we’d ever met.
Seizures again
She was in foster for 5 weeks and seizure free, we were starting to wonder if she ever even had them and an amazing home for her that she was supposed to go to the following week that was aware she was relinquished for a possible history of seizures but he didn’t care and said he would deal with whatever came his way. The same night we approved her adopter she started having seizures after being seizure free for 5 weeks. When the first went away we were relieved, however shortly after she started seizing again. She was taken to the hospital and admitted while they tried to get the seizures under control. She was put on fluids and more blood work was done. She was given 380mg of Phenobarbital, adding Valium, Kempra, and Proponal and though unconscious she still continued to seize. After about 12 hours and 14 more seizures in the hospital we were told the brain damage would be irreversible and if she ever came out of it she would not be normal and we could not let her suffer. The only consolation in this is knowing she had such amazing fosters and was able to spend the last 5 weeks of her life in a home where she was doted on constantly and got to always be with someone who loved her.
Video of her having seizures. It is a bit graphic:
Can you help?

Unfortunately, we are a very small rescue and this has not only emotionally bankrupted us but financially it has been such a hard hit combined with all the other medical dogs in our care that we will not be able to save anymore until we are able to get this covered. I know it will be hard to raise money on a dog that didn’t make it but many more will not make it if we have to turn them away. Your donation will help us to continue to do the work we do and continue with our philosophy that as long as we have a foster the rest will come together. Thank you for taking the time to read this and if you are unable to donate, please consider sharing so we can continue our work and so that rescuing Gracie and giving her this chance will not be something that causes us to steer away from the next medical dog but to embrace it with open arms and give it everything we can just like we did for Gracie Lou.

I am so grateful to have been able to meet sweet Gracie Lou Freebush at Petco. While definitely more of a crazy cat lady than a dog person, I absolutely loved Gracie and looked forward to seeing her every day at work. She was the sweetest, most gentle dog. Miss you forever Gracie Bird, rest easy sweet girl.

Thank you for trying to save her. How devestating I wish I had known and would have brought over CBD oil for Baby girl.

Sadly even when a rescue loses a pet, they incur medical bills due to their valiant efforts. May Baby Girl Rest In Peace and Thank
You to her rescue for saving 5 more dogs in shelter I’m sure she’s smiling down at her rescuer for paying it forward by helping more precious ones in need.

I just wanted to personally thank everyone who donated here. It is because of your generosity that we are able to continue the work we do and we cannot thank you enough. And the best way we can honor Baby Girl’s memory is to help others in need and we did that this past week by taking on 6 more that were in high kill shelters that had run out of time and needed help. We did this on a leap of faith only to discover this morning our campaign goal had been met. Thank you ❤️❤️❤️. You can follow us on our Facebook Page Miracle Foundation SD to see our work and follow others in need and that are searching for their forever homes.
