Baby Needs Urgent Surgery to Live Comfortably Again
Twelve-year-old Baby needs urgent surgery to remove a mass near his ribcage, and his owner Lupe needs your help to make it happen. Baby’s surgery is estimated to cost between $4,500 and $5,166—an amount Lupe, living on a fixed income, simply can’t afford.
She discovered the mass in February, and after months of exams and second opinions, Sterns Veterinary in Bakersfield confirmed that surgery is the only option to keep Baby healthy and comfortable.
Lupe, nearly 80 and disabled since age 50, lives with her older son, who also faces health challenges. On just $1,200 a month from SSI, they can’t make this critical surgery possible on their own.
Baby’s been a cherished part of Lupe’s family since he was 7 months old, rescued as a stray off the streets. Lupe’s son brought him home, and Baby quickly became the youngest of the pack, earning his fitting name as the “baby” among the family’s Husky and Lab. Over the years, Baby has faced and overcome many challenges. At a year old, he defended the family when an intruder jumped the fence, resulting in Baby getting cut but healing like the brave dog he is.
His resilience continued years later when he needed surgery for a fatty mass, and then again when his leg had to be amputated. At that time, the community generously supported a fundraiser to help with the amputation costs—and Baby’s recovery was remarkable.
