Don’t you just love a little ol’ senior doggie?

Especially one that is the happiest sweetheart after years of mistreatment?

Well, that is Babee. She was rescued from a hoarding case in northern California, a rural area. She was probably used for breeding, or anyway had a lot of puppies. She’s blind now, and probably deaf. A great rescue, Soul2Soul in Oregon, took her in.

The problem:

Babee was in the animal shelter in California for many months. Finally the shelter was reaching out to rescues, and Soul2Soul got involved. This is the picture they were sent from the shelter, and they were told she was older and might have some bad teeth, but was otherwise healthy and good to go.

This is what she looked like when she arrived in Oregon. Her fur stunk of urine, and was matted and flea infested:

Babee cleaned up well, but shaving off all that dirty hair revealed mammary tumors. And one of them had opened (ulcerated). That is very bad, and means that surgery cannot wait long. Further, it was clear she was blind and her eyes are swelling. Another thing never mentioned.

What she needs: the big thing, those tumors have to be removed. Then they have to be tested. While she is under they will also take care of her teeth, some are rotted. She’s probably around 14 years old too, so she needs blood tests and special care for surgery… she’s a senior! But she is a sweetheart, really great with her foster and very loving and friendly. Despite her age Soul2Soul is sure they can find her a good home because she is so charming, they just need to get her fixed up first.
