About the Campaign
Babe is a 4-year-old female Pitbull/Boxer mix with severe flea allergy dermatitis. Her owner, Tina, says Babe has chewed at herself so badly that her skin now looks like mange. This has happened before, especially in the summer, but this year is much worse, and Babe is clearly uncomfortable.
Tina has already tried to get advice from an online vet, but Babe needs to be seen in person. The vet clinic Tina has used before charges about $75 just for the office visit, and Babe will likely need treatment for the itching, skin inflammation, possible secondary infection, and flea control to break the cycle. Right now Tina does not even know the full cost because she cannot afford the first visit.
Babe came to Tina about two or three years ago through a friend of a friend. Babe’s previous owner was going to be incarcerated, and Babe was going to be taken to the pound. Tina was asked to keep her, and she did. The previous owner never came back, and Babe became Tina’s dog for good.
Babe has always struggled with this skin problem, but the heat and fleas make it flare badly in the summer. Tina has also been trying to get Babe spayed through a low-cost program, but when the appointment came, her ride did not show up. She still wants to get Babe fixed, but right now the urgent need is getting her skin treated so she stops chewing herself raw.
The barrier is money. Tina works in construction, installing vinyl siding when work is available. Lately there has not been much work, and weather has made it even harder. She recently found out she has lupus and has no medical insurance, so she is trying to save money to see a rheumatologist and get bloodwork for herself. She is in the painful position of trying to choose between her own medical care and getting Babe help.
Donations will help cover Babe’s veterinary exam, skin treatment, flea allergy care, medications, and related follow-up so she can stop itching, stop chewing, and finally be comfortable again. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian.
