About the Campaign
Avgo Needs Support
for Ongoing Cancer Treatment
Avgolemono Noodle Misthos—lovingly called Avgo—is a four-year-old Italian Greyhound with a name almost as big as her heart. She’s sweet, sensitive, and fiercely bonded to her family, including her rescue brother Foax (a Puppy Bowl MVP!) and a new puppy friend who’s joined the pack.
Last fall, Katerina noticed what looked like a harmless skin tag on Avgo’s back leg. But when it got scratched, things took a turn. A biopsy revealed it was a Mast Cell Tumor (MCT)—an aggressive form of cancer that’s not typically seen in Italian Greyhounds. Since then, Avgo has had multiple tumors surgically removed, and she’s now on an intensive treatment plan to keep the cancer at bay.
Her current care includes:
- Palladia chemotherapy pills ($230/month)
- H1 blockers ($30/month)
- Allergy shots ($95/month) to prevent flare-ups that can trigger tumor growth
- Bi-weekly blood work ($200 every two weeks)
- Supplements ($135 every two months)
- Plus regular checkups and imaging at her primary vet and UC Davis.
Just last week, a new tumor appeared over the weekend and had to be surgically removed on Wednesday. That emergency visit alone was over $2,000. With MCT in her system, this kind of recurrence is expected—but treatable with consistent care. Avgo recently had a lymph node removed, and while her x-rays came back clean, her fight is far from over.
Katerina works full-time at San Francisco State University, supporting both faculty and students, while also managing student loan debt and caring for her senior dog Foax. She’s used Care Credit to cover Avgo’s past procedures, but the ongoing cost of treatment is more than she can manage alone.
This fundraiser will help cover the next six months of Avgo’s treatment—keeping her tumors at bay and her quality of life high.
Avgo is not just a pet—she’s a smart, affectionate companion who rings a bell when she needs to go out and lives for snuggles with her pack. She’s still young, still full of life, and with your help, she can continue to live it to the fullest.
All donations go directly to Avgo’s care. Thank you for supporting this little fighter and the family who loves her!
