Serious hip injury, and he needs surgery to get back on his feet.
Arlo is a 4-year-old Shepherd mix, and what started as a sudden limp has turned into a painful, ongoing injury that isn’t improving with rest. After weeks of trying to let him “walk it off,” X-rays confirmed this wasn’t a minor strain. Schuyler was told the tear was there from the start, and without proper treatment, Arlo’s pain and mobility will only get worse.
The vet also explained Arlo has hip dysplasia, and because of the way his hip is angled, an injury like this was essentially inevitable. One day he seemed fine. The next, he was limping. The injury happened about four weeks ago, and after three weeks of watching him struggle, Schuyler got the imaging that showed what they’re dealing with.
Arlo has been more than a pet. Schuyler works full-time in pet cremation and aftercare, and Arlo often goes to work with her, quietly keeping her company while she helps other families through grief. After losing a pet a couple of years ago, Schuyler’s partner encouraged her to adopt again. They connected with Companion Pet Rescue, met Arlo over FaceTime, and he became her constant. When the relationship ended, Arlo stayed with Schuyler — and he’s been by her side through everything since.
Schuyler doesn’t have pet insurance and has always handled expenses out of pocket. Right now, she has about $1,000 available and about $1,000 in CareCredit, but that won’t be enough to cover the surgery and care Arlo needs. After a 10-year relationship ended, she’s been rebuilding her life from scratch. She took out loans just to move and secure a place to live, and she’s still catching up on basic necessities — even keeping her car running has been a struggle.
Schuyler doesn’t have a big support system. Her mom is on dialysis, and it’s just the two of them. She’s doing everything she can, but Arlo’s surgery is more than she can carry alone right now. This fundraiser will help cover Arlo’s orthopedic treatment so he can walk comfortably again and get back to being the happy, steady companion Schuyler depends on.
