About the Campaign
Ayla needs chemo
She had bone cancer. HAD. Past tense! Thanks to amputation, that is gone. But there is some concern that it could have spread in the body, so the surgeon and cancer specialist agree that Ayla needs a course of chemotherapy.
Staples out, doing great!
Fortunately she has a great non-profit BanditsK9Care helping her, and they covered her first course of treatment on January 8th. The full course is six treatments, so there are five more to go and they are going to be about $1000 each.
Ayla is a service dog, providing a real service! Her owner Melanie has psoriatic arthritis, sometimes having difficulty standing and Ayla helps with this and balance. But there is more, Melanie’s husband committed suicide and attempted to murder her at that time, afterwards you can imagine she was quite traumatized. She got Ayla, a large and strong dog, to help her with this as well.
Last month Ayla had a successful fundraiser to get her leg amputated, which is the best solution, and three-legged dogs can do just fine (watch the video above!). But, based on what the doctor’s saw during surgery and some tests, they highly recommend this chemo now.
Melanie, her owner, is on disability, a fixed income, and has already spent over $1000 and maxed out her Care Credit account getting Alya diagnosed. Fortunately she has some money and the rescue helping her, but Ayla is going to need a lot of help to get all her chemo treatments! All donations are only to Ayla, paid only to the vet when the procedure is done. Three legged dogs live normal and happy lives, lets make that happen for Ayla 🙂
