About the Campaign

Achilles is a 6-year-old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier who has a luxating patella, a kneecap that slips out of place, causing pain, limping, and strain on his “good” leg as he compensates. He needs surgery to fix it, but before he can even get scheduled, he must complete the preliminary diagnostic work: full X-rays and a written report that his veterinarian can use to refer him to a lower-cost surgical hospital.

Sky originally brought Achilles to a high-cost corporate clinic (Banfield) because her regular vet doesn’t perform specialist orthopedic procedures. After talking through options, Sky worked with her vet to find a more affordable surgical hospital. The catch is that the hospital won’t take clients directly—Achilles must be referred by his vet, and that referral requires current X-rays and documentation. That’s what this fundraiser is for: the crucial first step that unlocks access to surgery at a price Sky has a chance of managing.

Achilles’ limping started around February 21 after a walk to the park. He came home favoring the leg, and it hasn’t improved the way a simple sprain would. Achilles is an excitable, high-energy dog who jumps off things and plays hard, and the injury may be related to that, or it may be genetic. Either way, the result is the same: his knee is unstable, he’s hurting, and he needs real orthopedic care, not just rest.

Achilles didn’t come from an easy situation. He was originally Sky’s dad’s dog, then ended up with her dad’s girlfriend, who kept him outside and did not care for him properly. When Sky saw the condition he was in—dirty, covered in fleas, with wounds on his back and clearly neglected—she stepped in and brought him home. She got him treated, cleaned up, and safe.

Sky has been trying to raise money since the limp began, asking family, posting on Facebook, and doing everything she can while keeping Achilles as calm as possible to prevent further damage. But finances are tight. Sky is currently unemployed and going to interviews. Her husband, Ayden (21), is a Marine (E-4) stationed at Camp Lejeune, and his income is covering the household bills.

Donations will help cover Achilles’ full X-rays and the veterinary report/referral required to get him into the lower-cost surgical hospital for luxating patella repair. All donations are paid only to the veterinarian. Thank you for helping Sky get Achilles past this first hurdle—so he can get the surgery that will actually fix his knee and stop the daily pain.
